Substance use disorders
Our approach
We at the Highlands Recovery recognise substance use disorder, not as a moral failing or a choice, but as a complex disorder rooted in the intricate circuits of the brain. Our approach embraces diverse theoretical models, from the disease model to the trauma model.
But knowledge alone isn’t enough. It’s about arming you with the tools and practice to navigate your own journey towards recovery. Our program delves deep into the neuroscience of addiction, unveiling the disruptions within the brain’s reward, motivation, and judgement centres. With this understanding, you’ll embark on a transformative journey towards reclaiming control of your life.
This challenge is indeed complex, yet the solutions are refreshingly straightforward. Here at the Highlands, we streamline the path to recovery for you.
Trauma and stessor-related disorders
Trauma treatment at Highlands Recovery
Highlands Trauma Program provides a compassionate and evidence-based approach in a luxurious facility designed for healing and recovery. Through personalised support and proven techniques like stabilisation, reprocessing, and post-traumatic growth, we empower individuals to reclaim their lives and thrive.
Trauma is very often an underlying reason for addiction. Trauma is also commonly an underlying reason for ‘burnout’, runaway anxiety, persistent depressed moods, difficulty with emotion regulation, ‘failure-to-launch’ (young people who cannot get going in life), failed relationships and so much more. Trauma is at the heart of many of the problems we face today.
We have put trauma and stressor-related disorders front and centre of clinical program. We believe that unless we recognise and treat trauma, long term health, wellness and recovery is unlikely to happen and the client will instead fall into the ‘revolving-door’ patterns that blight so many.
The Highlands Recovery Program
Highlands Recovery is not merely a mental health retreat; it is a vibrant community of healthcare professionals committed to making a significant impact in the lives of those overcoming trauma and addiction.
