What is a mental health disorder and how is it treated?
Mental health disorders such as anxiety and depression are prevalent conditions that can significantly impact one’s emotional well-being and daily functioning. Anxiety disorders involve excessive worry, fear, or apprehension, while depression is characterised by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and loss of interest in activities once enjoyed.
The Highlands Recovery Program utilises a holistic approach to treat anxiety and depression, recognising the importance of tailoring treatment to each client’s unique needs. This often involves a combination of psychotherapy and medication, such as CBT, exposure therapy and mindfulness-based therapies. Lifestyle modifications, including exercise, diet, sleep, and stress management techniques, are also emphasised. The overarching goal of treatment at Highlands is to empower individuals to regain control over their lives, enhance functioning, and build resilience in confronting mental health challenges.
